Loosely based on the novel of the same title, director Jin-ho Hur and screenwriter Geling Yan relocate Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ 18th-century French seduction drama to 1930s Shanghai, then known as the “Paris of the East.” Displaying the same venomous passions of the novel and a sumptuous set design, the Korea-PRC co-production displays actors such as the famed Zhang Ziyi in what film critic Manohla Dargis calls a “tremulous, heart-shuddering performance.” In Mandarin Chinese with English subtitles.  (HD Presentation)
