Considered one of the great movies by Roger Ebert, Wim Wenders' meditative and elegiac film Wings of Desire follows two angels through modern and post-war Berlin, as they not only witness human lives but provide what comfort and help they can to the people the encounter. One, after many centuries of such duty, decides he wishes to experience the joys of the human life and discovers that spiritual experience is not enough. The film was the winner of Best Director at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival.
