Produced by IU Telecommunication student Chelsey McKrill and directed by recent alum Sam Sher, the concept for this student and community piece originated from the idea to transform Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai into a modern day tale. Student Seven takes place in an alternate-reality, university setting, where martial arts based honor duels are an every day event. Seven students bring their skills together to create “The Gamer’s Brigade”, a group that will compete for resources in the end-of-year tournament against other student groups. In an often dystopian environment, the seven ultimately find out the only way to beat an oppressive school board system and earn (back) their honor is to trust each other and put their differences aside to work as a team.
