A film adaptation of Shakespeare’s infamously
bloody Titus Andronicus, Titus is a tragedy of
revenge and retaliation. The proud Roman general,
Titus (Anthony Hopkins) returns from war with the
Goths victorious, but only at great personal cost.
The captured and humiliated Queen of the Goths
(Jessica Lange) devotes herself to his ruin. Using
techniques of theatrical spectacle, director Julie
Taymor makes beauty of mayhem in this provocative
exploration of destructive behavior and its ramifications.
